- Mounted Flap Wheels
Where They Are Used
- Deburring pipe interiors and holes
- Contours, radii and mold cavities
- Local finishing on molds and parts
- Tight areas around welds
How to Choose the Size
- Wheel diameter: choose it by the bore size or the space to be sanded; the wheel has to fit
- Wheel width: a wider contact face works faster; a narrower one is more flexible
- Shank diameter: match it to the collet of your die grinder or drill; 6 mm and 1/4 in are common
Speed and Overhang: The Key Safety Point
- Follow the maximum speed and overhang marked on the product
- Insert as much of the shank into the collet as possible to reduce overhang
- Smaller wheel diameters need higher speeds to reach a suitable surface speed
- If you notice clear vibration after start-up, stop the tool at once and check it
5 Abrasives
Aluminum oxide
general purpose for steel, wood and plastic
Calcined aluminum oxide
sharper, longer life
Zirconia
stainless steel and alloy steel
Silicon carbide
non-ferrous metals and non-metals
Ceramic
hard-to-grind materials and heavy-load work
Mounted Flap Wheels vs. Mounted Points vs. Flap Discs
| Mounted Flap Wheels | Mounted Points (Bonded) | Flap Discs | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Best for | Bores, contours, tight spaces | Bores, mold cavities | Flat surfaces, welds |
| Finish | Smooth; sands and blends | Fast removal, rough finish | Smooth |
| Flexibility | High; conforms to shapes | None | Medium |
| Tool | Die grinder, drill | Die grinder | Angle grinder |
Shank Options
- Plain (smooth) shank 6 mm and 1/4 in (6.35 mm) are common; clamps directly in the collet
- Other shank types (such as threaded shank): specify them in your inquiry; Rex confirms when quoting
Grit
- P40–P60 deburring, flash removal, light grinding
- P80–P120 blending, edge finishing, surface cleaning
- P150–P240 fine sanding, pre-polish preparation
- Above P240 refining before final finishing

drying to cure the bond

05. Inspection
checking shank concentricity, flap retention and balance

06. Packing
bulk or retail packaging
Why Rex for Mounted Flap Wheels
5 abrasives
covering everything from general-purpose to hard-to-grind materials
Shank inspection
concentricity and flap retention are checked to reduce vibration and flap loss
Order together with flap discs
same flap-stacking process, so you can combine both product lines in one purchase
Tool Brands: Retail Kits
- Mixed-size kits: several wheel diameters in one box for different bore sizes
- Mixed-grit kits: coarse, medium and fine in one box, from deburring to fine sanding
- Packaging: blister card, plastic case or color box, printed with your brand and barcode
Products Often Bought With Mounted Flap Wheels
