Flap Disc Manufacturer

Rex manufactures T27 flat and T29 conical flap discs in diameters from 100 to 180 mm, with 5 abrasive grains, grits from P36 to P600 and fiberglass backing plates. Most output goes to overseas brands as OEM private label, and Rex also supplies wholesalers and industrial users in volume.

T27 or T29

T27 grinds flat against the workpiece. T29 works at an angle and concentrates pressure. A private label line usually needs both.

T27 flat

working angle of about 0–15°, wide contact area, suited to blending flat surfaces, edge dressing and finishing

T29 conical

working angle of about 15–25°, concentrated pressure, suited to weld grinding, chamfering and fast stock removal

Where Each of the 5 Abrasive Grains Fits

Aluminum oxide

general purpose for metal and non-metal, with the widest grit range, covering everything from stock removal to fine grinding

Calcined aluminum oxide

sharper and longer-lasting than standard aluminum oxide, suited to an upgrade tier

Zirconia

for grinding stainless steel, alloy steel and carbon steel; under pressure the grain fractures to expose new cutting edges

Silicon carbide

surface work on non-metals such as stone and glass

Ceramic

heat resistant and long-lasting. Rex rates its life at about 3–4 times that of standard flap discs (in suitable applications). It needs enough pressure to stay self-sharpening

Choosing Flap Discs by Workpiece

Workpiece Recommended Grain Recommended Shape Common Grits
Carbon steel Zirconia, aluminum oxide T29 for weld removal, T27 for blending P40–P80
Stainless steel Zirconia, ceramic T27 P60–P120
Aluminum and other non-ferrous metals Aluminum oxide T27 P60–P120
Wood Aluminum oxide T27 P60–P120
Stone, glass Silicon carbide T27 Chosen by process step

Flap Discs vs. Grinding Wheels vs. Mounted Flap Wheels

Many jobs that used grinding wheels can drop a blending step after switching to flap discs.

How Flap Discs Are Made

How well a flap disc performs depends mainly on even flap stacking and strong bonding. Rex’s production has 6 steps:

01. Cloth slitting

consistent flap width, no frayed edges

02. Gluing

controls glue amount and coverage, which decides whether flaps come loose

03. Flap stacking

controls flap count, angle and evenness, which decide cutting power, life and balance

04. Pressing

presses the flaps flat and tight to reduce vibration and uneven wear

05. Drying and curing

secures bond strength so flaps stay on under heat at high speed

06. Packing

labeling and speed marking, in bulk or retail packaging

Speed and Safety Marking

Every flap disc must be marked with its maximum speed, which depends on diameter. At the common peripheral speed of 80 m/s:
The angle grinder’s no-load speed must not exceed the speed marked on the disc. Coated abrasives for the European market follow the EN 13743 safety standard. Rex holds MPA certification (products covered as stated on the certificate).

Industries

Steel structures and metalworking

Frequently Asked Questions

We work systematically to integrate corporate responsibility in our core business and make our expertise available for the benefit of the societies where we operate.

Can you make flap discs like the ones we sell now?
Yes. Send a sample or a spec sheet. Rex makes samples first, and bulk production starts after you approve them.
Zirconia is the core choice. Ceramic suits heavy-load work that demands long life.
Yes. They can also be combined with other Rex products in the same order.
A flap disc is made of multiple abrasive cloth flaps stacked at an angle on a backing plate. It is used on an angle grinder and grinds and blends in one step.
They are grit numbers under the FEPA / ISO 6344 standard. The lower the number, the coarser the grit and the faster it grinds. The higher the number, the finer the grit and the smoother the finish.
Yes. Rex holds ISO 9001, ISO 14001, BSCI, FSC and MPA certification. Certificate files are available on request.
Yes. Samples are made before bulk production, and the sample policy is confirmed when quoting.
