Hook and Loop Sanding Disc Manufacturer

Rex manufactures hook and loop sanding discs in three series: film-backed, paper-backed and cloth-backed. They come in 4 abrasives (aluminum oxide, zirconia, silicon carbide and ceramic), grits 24–600 and four shapes: round discs, delta, mouse and rectangles. Hole patterns and sizes can both be customized.

Three Backing Series

Choose the series by backing first. The backing sets how the disc feels and what it is used for.
Series Backing Bond Features Main Uses
Film-backed Flexible PET film Resin Flat surface, uniform scratch pattern, semi-open coat resists clogging Automotive paint prep, metal sanding, wood
Paper-backed C, D or E weight paper Full-resin General purpose, cost-effective, choice of paper weight Wood, metal, automotive prep
Cloth-backed Cloth Confirmed when quoting Tear-resistant, suits curves and edges Metal sanding, heavy-duty work
Heavier paper gives a stiffer, more durable backing. Lighter paper is softer and conforms better to the workpiece.

How to Choose Among the 4 Abrasives

Aluminum oxide

the general-purpose choice for wood, metal and automotive prep

Zirconia

metal removal and deburring, with a fast cut

Silicon carbide

hard, brittle materials such as stone and glass (paper-backed series)

Ceramic

professional metal sanding and demanding surface finishing

Shapes and Sizes

Abrasive, grit, diameter, shape, hole pattern, backing and attachment method can all be customized to your requirements.
Shape Size Compatible Tools
Round discs 50 / 75 / 100 / 115 / 125 / 150 / 180 / 225 mm diameter Random orbital sanders, pneumatic sanders
Delta 93 × 93 × 93 mm Delta sanders, for corners
Mouse 140 × 100 mm Mouse sanders
Rectangles 93 × 230 mm, 115 × 280 mm Orbital sheet sanders, hand sanding blocks

Hole Patterns

The hole pattern must line up with the dust extraction holes on your sander’s backing pad. If they don’t match, dust extraction suffers.
When you request a quote, state the diameter and hole pattern, or send a sample.

Grit

Grits 24–600, used in stages:

The Loop Backing Determines How Long a Hook and Loop Disc Lasts

Hook and loop discs change quickly because the loop backing grips the hook face of the backing pad. A poorly made loop backing leads to discs falling off, weak grip and adhesive failure at high temperatures.
  • Usage tip: replace the backing pad once its hook face wears, or even new discs won’t hold

Film-backed or paper-backed: which should I choose?
If you need a high-quality finish with a uniform scratch pattern (for example on automotive paint), choose film-backed. For general sanding where price matters most, choose paper-backed.
Yes. Send a backing pad or a hole layout drawing, and Rex will die cut to the drawing.
It varies by market and depends on the leading sander brands there. The safest approach is to send a backing pad or a used disc, and Rex will die cut to match the actual part.
Yes. Grit combination, discs per kit and packaging can all be customized.
Sanding paint and body filler calls for an anti-clog (stearate) coating. Mention it in your RFQ; it is confirmed by Rex when quoting.
